Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe:
practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive : forget. Do more than dream: work (William Arthur Ward wrote these words to inspire people to be responsible and do the right things).
The BoardSource Leadership forum 2013 brought this message to life as nonprofit boards were inspired to think boldly and take risks. My visit to Los Angeles turned out so differently this time. Bobby Owens my host, is an LA resident and I got to see the City through her eyes. Bobby took me into the Communities and I got to see the invaluable work being undertaken by nonprofits and universities such as Antioch University. I heard testimonies of how gang members, drug addicts and people who had suffered abuse, have been given a new lease of life and hope for a better and different future. Indeed to achieve great things boards need to be bold, courageous and risky. The dividends can be truly inspiring.
