Governance is the act of governing. This covers processes, systems, structures and behaviours. Good governance embraces sound management practices, cohesive policies, credible guidance, decision-making or leadership processes and a balance of responsibilities and liabilities,. Governance, revolves around the way rules are set and implemented. Essentially governance encourages organisations to focus on achieving the vision and mission and to have at the forefront the cause ( its reason) for being in existence. To govern is to ‘steer’, to lead, to take an aerial view, to strategise.
The board is legally responsible for governing and controlling the organisation, sometimes called council, management committee board of directors, board of trustee or the governing body.
